Crazy for you!

Crazy for you

A performance of the Zangler Follies is in the progress at the Zangler Theatre in New York City sometime in the 1930s. Impresario Bela Zangler has fallen in love with his dance director, Tess, but since he is a married man, Zangler has been rejected. Bobby Child – heir to a wealthy banking business, but desperate to be in show business – manages to talk Zangler into letting him audition on the spot, but the audition is not a success. Outside the theatre, Bobby is accosted by Irene, his fiancé, whom he definitely doesn’t want to marry, and then by his mother who insists that he goes to Nevada to foreclose on a property.

So three days later we’re in Deadrock, a run down mining town and the only woman around is feisty Polly Baker, the postmistress. Her father, Everett, owns the equally run down Gaiety Theatre. When a letter arrives form New York stating that a banker named Bobby Child, is coming shortly, to foreclose on the theatre if Everett fails to meet his mortgage commitments, Polly vows that if she meets this ‘Bobby Child’ she’ll do ‘something ugly’. Very soon Bobby arrives, sees Polly and, in the way of musical theatre, falls instantly in love with her.

The towns saloon is owned by Lank Hawkins, a ‘man of vision’ who wants to marry Polly and buy Everett’s theatre. It’s in the saloon that Polly meets Bobby, who immediately declares his love for her, but she is not impressed with this fast approach. However, Bobby encourages her to ‘have her fling’ and teaches her to dance. The result…Polly falls head over heals for Bobby!

Crazy for you

When Bobby sees the Gaiety Theatre, he has an idea; they could save it by putting on a show. Polly is persuaded to join the plan, but then Bobby introduces himself properly, and she realises who he is, the man from the bank – it must be a trick! Heartbroken, Polly leaves in tears. Suddenly, Bobby sees a trunk of theatrical costumes, and he gets another idea ‘Bela Zangler’.

After a few days some old friends of Bobby’s arrive in Deadrock, glamourous Follies Girls from New York, causing quite a stir amongst the menfolk! With the girls is Bobby Child, to put on a show to save the Gaiety. Bela Zangler the great Impresario is here in Deadrock to help them! How could they refuse?

Will this wild plan work, or will it end in tears? By the time the curtain falls you will know!
